John Fuchs is the Regional Director at our Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire office. We asked him a few questions to help you get to know the man behind the desk.
How long have you been with ASC?
Six years.
What makes you a good broker?
Of an age where I have experienced more financial calamities, banking schisms, recessions, outlived Margaret Thatcher, and even survived a pandemic, there is little I have not had to deal with or heard about as a business owner and broker! That, combined with my exceptional depth of knowledge, close relationships with lenders and resources via the ASC team, makes me a good broker.
I listen to what clients want to achieve and am honest with them about their expectations. I judge every application on its business merits, not risk and strive to get my clients the outcome they need.
What is the most challenging finance deal you’ve put together?
One of my most challenging and interesting deals was securing £1.45 million to fund the purchase of a run-down fuel station with commercial units. This application involved specialist valuations and environmental reports. It was projection-led, so I worked with
Budgens retail and commercial letting agents to prepare and project sales to the lender. I also enlisted the help of an experienced fuel and retail operator client with excellent knowledge of his sector.
This purchase was not an area supported by most lenders, so the application presentation was crucial, and it was satisfying to get the deal funded.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I like the variety of my work as I deal with people from all ends of the business world. I enjoy presenting the solution to clients and getting them where they want to be.
Above all, I like working with a small team and running my own business.
What are your interests outside of work?
When I’m not working, I enjoy going to the gym and spending time with my family and dog. I also like taking part in country pursuits and watching rugby.
