Don’t be a jack of all trades, yet a master of none

There’s a saying that you need to work at something for 10,000 hours in order to master it. Thinking about it, that’s a long period of time.

It makes sense to focus on being an expert in one or two areas, rather than too many – as the expression goes, you don’t want to be a jack of all trades and a master of none.

And the same can be true of any professional service. If you accountant showed you they were qualified and had a good track record, you’d probably trust them to look after your business accounts. What if they also claimed to be an architect, personal trainer, qualified dentist, local mayor and IT technician? You’d probably get suspicious and think they might not do a great job with the accounts.

And that is why, over the last 40 years, we focus on only one thing – Business Finance for Business People.
