I am a little bit bemused that we suddenly have a discussion that it was “miss-selling” when banks offered swaps to small businesses. I am bemused because I have no idea why this has only been discovered now. These types of products were never suitable for small businesses. They simply do not suit the planning and thinking mentality of business people and entrepreneurs.
They may be extremely suitable for businesses where there is a finance director who can focus on these things. Small businesses have a different focus. We can honestly say they weren’t suitable then and they are not suitable now and we cannot understand why anybody thought that they were suitable in the first place.
Anybody who proposes to sell these products to small businesses simply does not understand how small businesses operate.
