On one hand, we were pleased to read that a recent survey by the FSB found that confidence among SMEs had improved significantly compared to the previous year.
However, we then read further to find that in fact, despite these higher confidence levels, fewer firms were actually applying for finance, despite the fact that average interest rates were falling.
So why the discrepancy?
In part it is to do with the ever increasing hurdles which small businesses face when applying for finance. Even though there are lenders will to provide business loans, it has become harder to know where to look, and more difficult to navigate through the journey.
