A social success!
Competing with online marketplaces is never easy – especially if you are trying to stand out against the main players such as e-bay and Amazon. But one organisation managed to ensure that they can stand-out and appeal to their customers in a way which helps local communities and good causes at the same time.
Run Native is an online marketplace, created by social enterprise for social enterprise. This means that all the sellers listed on the marketplace are not run for a profit, but rather re-invest their earnings in their communities. The project was born when over a period of working with social enterprises, they realised that many had wonderful products to sell, but not necessarily the means to promote themselves beyond their local population.
“We understand that many social enterprise managers simply don’t have the time or resources to set up and promote their own online shop. Even for those that do have an online presence, it can be a challenge to reach an audience beyond the local market. Run Native aims to meet both these challenges by collectively marketing products from social enterprises across the UK - allowing small social enterprises to reach a much broader, national, audience with their products.”
It appears that their success is catching on. A report by ShopperCentric in Oct 2012 showed that 73% of consumers would always be inclined to buy ethical goods “if the price matched those of standard products,” and that 39% of shoppers said they would buy more responsible products if they were easier to locate.
And their success has seen the site grow – with more than 30 social enterprises on board, and looking to increase that number to over 100 this year. Take a look at www.runnative.co.uk
We at ASC congratulate them and wish them continued success!
