Premium Rate Numbers – A Call to Action!
We’ve talked before about how banks and other large companies treat their customers with contempt by using premium phone numbers.
And in the aftermath of the devastating floods which have hit Britain this winter, we were pleased to see that there was a call to action, and pressure on the Prime Minister to limit the use of 0845 numbers.
Richard Lloyd of consumer group Which? said: "Flood victims face huge phone bills with insurance companies as most use high rate numbers. We want this to stop. Victims shouldn't have to pay a premium to make a claim, especially when many will call from a mobile. The Government must also make sure other public bodies drop high rate numbers so people are not out of pocket calling essential services."
And that sums it up. In a similar way that someone whose house has been destroyed should not have to pay to be kept on hold and speak to their insurer, banks should not be charging their customers premium rates by having them call 0845 and 0844 numbers for customers and businesses to make their everyday transactions.
At ASC, we never had the need to introduce such complicated communication tools – we don’t need to charge hidden fees etc. Call us old fashioned, but if you operate a good business and provide a good service, clients are happy to pay honest fees.
