Often, convention can stand in the way of innovation
This is the sentiment driving the dining industries estrangement from a traditional fixed establishment; business owners are now exploring alternate methods to get food to the consumer. For example, food trucks are being turned out in droves worldwide, now seen as a viable means of business. Whilst catering vans are hardly a modern marvel, savvy business owners are taking advantage of advances in social media to allow consumers to locate and enjoy their “hip” gourmet dishes.
The Wapping Project follows a similar line of thought. Instead of taking a traditional restaurant space, they decided to look at something different. Developed in an old hydraulic power station, it is one of the more unusual places to have a meal in London. Acting simultaneously as a restaurant and exhibition space, it is a welcome departure from the routine dining setting.
When inspecting your own business, ask yourself if there are alternative options to general convention that could be cost-saving and even beneficial to your revenue.
