Where have all the humans gone?
I tried to fix a small issue with my internet supplier the other day. They didn’t provide a contact number, but instead directed me to their “live chat” facility. In theory, this was a great idea, I could simply type the problem out on my keyboard, and somebody at the other end would type back and help me solve the issue. So I thought I’d give it a go.
However, it soon became pretty problematic. As they ask more and more questions as I typed, I realised it became quite tricky to manage the conversation. When I wanted them to clarify something, it became quite tedious to have to type out the whole question, by which time they’d moved the conversation forward and I then had to clarify which instruction I was asking the question about! (This is not to mention the biggest problem – that as we were trying to improve the internet, the changes which we were doing caused the connection to keep cutting out!)
I don’t know about you, but sometimes, I’d just want to speak to a human. Someone who can help provide answers to my questions, and understand where I’m coming from and what I’m trying to achieve. Technology can be very helpful, but sometimes the “old-fashioned” avenues are still the best!
